Tour to Berchtesgaden (Germany) and Salzburg (Austria)
October 3. to October 6., 2010

Sunday morning we will leave for our annual trip  - this year we will visit the famous area of Berchtesgaden(Germany) and Salzburg(Austria).
Berchtesgaden not only famous for its “Kehlsteinhaus” (nick named “Eagle’s Nest”) built for Hitler’s 50th birthday and the memorials from the second world war also for the rich salt deposits, beautiful nature and smart villages and last but not least the breathtaking deep glacial lake Königssee (Kings lake) which has been an attraction for Bavarian Kings, artists and still today has its very own atmosphere. In this area you will also find the famous  Mount Watzmann at 2713 m.
A day will be spent in Salzburg, we will get a guided tour through the city of Mozart, stroll along the famous Getreidegasse, maybe have the possibility to hear some music and of course see several of the places where “Sound of Music” was filmed. Remember the scenes in the Mirabell gardens – “Do-Re-Mi … the Edelweiss song in front of the Felsenreitschule and many more. A visit to the famous and funny castle Hellbrunn will make this day perfect.
And don’t forget to try one of the delicious “Mozartkugeln” before leaving this magnificent city.
Among several other stops we also want to pick out the stop at the city of Rattenberg, Austria. Rattenberg is a town on the Inn River close to Innsbruck. With a population of 440, it is the smallest town in the country. Founded in the 1300s, it was built in the literal shadow of Rat Mountain to protect itself from marauders. Stroll through the streets and discover the numerous charming details of the carefully restored medivial town houses. And if you haven’t had time to get souvenirs or gifts – this is the place to find them!

We are sure that we as always will have an amusing and enjoyable trip together.
Included:  2 Overnights with breakfast and dinner in the area of Berchtesgaden, all entrance fees, guided tours mentioned plus travelling in a deluxe coach with a courier. We reserve the right to make changes if necessary.

Non-Carvers programme Sep. 26th to Oct. 10th 2010

For the non-carving people accompanying the carvers during the autumn weeks, we as always, offer several tours beside the trip to Berchtesgaden and Salzburg, (which of course is included in the “non-carvers programme”). Some full day and some half day tours are planned in the surrounding area.

* Of course we will take a look at our own village of Elbigenalp and show you everything you might want to know about it and changes you should know about if you have been here before.

* Today we  first visit the “Linderhof” King Ludwig of Bavarias small hunting castle before we continue the open air museum “Glentleiten” in Germany. The museum includes several old farms and alpine buildings, depicting how people used to live here. Workshops and much more have been reconstructed here complete with their entire furnishing. We will also visit the pretty small town of “Kochel by the Lake” where Franz Marc, Wassily Kadinsky and many other modern and abstract painters used to live and work.

* One day we will go to Egg and spend a day in the Bregenzer Forest, amongst other excursions we will spend a half day in a cheesery making our own cheese.   You may also have the opportunity to see some of the lace ware and skin care products made in the area.

* If the weather allows, a trip to one of the glaciers in the surrounding area is planned – see the tops of the mountains, breath in the fresh mountain air, watch the skiers and get some sun on your face.

* A trip with the local bus to one of the villages in the surroundings has become a fixed part of our programme. Depending on the weather we will decide exactly where to go.

** And last but not least, one afternoon we will cook something traditionally Austrian.
